Description
The three videos of career conversations
The videos are of 14 and 17 year olds in a school setting and are approximately 45 minutes each in length.
- Video 1 – 17 year old, considering university and degree apprenticeships, needing to ramp up the motivation to undertake more research. Feedback from the young person: “It was good. Helped me to see I need to do my research now so it’s not a mad scramble in the autumn to fact find and make decisions. Planning is important.”
- Video 2 – 14 year old considering options post 16. Feedback from the young person: “She called me wise. No one has ever said that before! Being able to talk to someone who doesn’t know me is a benefit because they don’t have any ideas about who I am so I can just be completely open about my own thoughts about careers and what I want to do after GCSEs.”
- Video 3 – 17 year old, working out which university to go to and what to study. They have many ideas and is finding decision making a challenge. Feedback from the young person “Liane got me to challenge my own thinking. I hadn’t realised that I lean towards the familiar. I think I want to be more adventurous in my decision making”.

3 videos on a model and allied theory underpinning career conversations
The three videos explain the three stages of the Creative Career Coaching Model and are approximately an hour each in length. They help to place the videos of the young people in context and include excerpts to illustrate certain theories and techniques. These videos were recorded for the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA).
Stage 1 – the Foundations where a working alliance is forged (effective communication, an agreed purpose and way of working)
Stage 2 – Exploration of the story, where the person’s situation, thoughts, feelings, constructs, influences etc. are explored, and career management strengths and development needs are unearthed. Gentle challenging and re-contracting also take place throughout this stage.
Stage 3 – Addressing needs. Some needs will be addressed throughout the process, and then an action plan is drawn up for any outstanding development needs.
