Labour Market Trends – Preparing Young People for the Future

Young people today are facing an increasingly complex and competitive labour market and the need for well-directed careers education in schools has never been more important. The skills they need to successfully navigate their way into the world of work are constantly changing but how can we equip them for the jobs that don’t yet exist?

Ideal for INSET training, this half day session is suitable for all secondary education subject teachers, post 16 staff and those involved with careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG).

Aim

To provide teaching staff in secondary schools with an understanding of the current and potential labour market in order to help them improve the career prospects of their students.

Objectives

Delegates will be able to:

  • Understand better the changing landscape of jobs and the key drivers for change.
  • Understand better the skills needs of employers and changes in recruitment practices.
  • Help students to identify the skills they acquire in subjects and how can these can be transferred to the workplace.
